Adventure Concerts with the Columbus Philharmonic

Every year, I have the pleasure of photographing the CIP as they put on a fabulous concert for elementary kids-the Adventure Concert. It is part of the Philharmonic's Education Program. It really gets them thinking about music and how rewarding playing an instrument can be. This year's theme was about music that can create feelings, like happy or sad.
I am basically free to roam around-keeping in mind the musicians and audience, so there are some interesting spots for great photos. As long as I don't interfere or make noise (I know, what a surprise, I really CAN be quiet!) I can try lots of different angles and viewpoints. These are from backstage:

From the main aisle with my cousin's awesome fisheye lens:
From the spotlight loft with my 70-200mm:

Dr. David Bowden, Music Director and Conductor, is outstanding. It is evident to me he really loves what he does! His professionalism and dedication are great attributes of his character. Columbus is lucky to have him.

Below, Dr. Bowden and Phil, the mascot, battle it out with light sabers during the Star Wars theme. The kids went wild!!! It really drew their attention. During another number. they donned cowboy hats for the Hoe Down. I just kept thinking...what a great opportunity for the kids in the audience to experience this terrific event! How lucky are they?
Mr. Charles Latshaw is the Assistant Conductor and holds his own on the entertainment factor! He was really into the music on this next number- He works with the Youth Orchestra and is smiling almost every time I see him! Being around music can do that-make you smile. He is wonderful.

Below the Youth Orchestra (white shirts) plays along side the CIP. They sounded wonderful! They took Ol' Suzanna! and played it lots of different ways-spooky, sad, lively, angry...it was just funny to hear. This shot shows Dr. Bowden and Phil singing along with the children.

I loved the trumpets-

It is amazing to be so close to such great musicians and conductors and watch them work together to make something that sounds so beautiful. I love doing it. So, thanks, Miss Vanessa, for letting me document another wonderful event by the Philharmonic.
I am also pleased to announce they are using two of last year's shots in the new Circle K in Columbus. They are images are printed into wallpaper! Several local photographers had their images from around Columbus used in the project. I can't wait to check them out.
Thanks for visiting!
Cheers!
